Building Loyalty and Retaining Talent

Offer appropriate wages and benefits for your team.
It’s a no-brainer, but providing competitive compensation and benefits for your employees is an important starting point for employee retention. The good news is employees are looking for far more than dollar signs when it comes to a work environment.

Build your brand
Marketing doesn’t just let your clients know you exist; it also raises awareness among potential employees and fosters pride within your existing team. Now’s the time to up your company’s name recognition and public perception.

Bolster a sense of belonging
LinkedIn recently determined that the number one factor keeping employees at a job for five years or more was whether or not they experienced a sense of belonging (“working in a place they feel they can be themselves at”).

Elevate the employee experience
Have you walked in your employees’ shoes lately? Or at least sat at their desk? Whether via environment, technology, operations or culture, think through what cost-efficient and impact-heavy changes you can make to improve your employees’ experiences at work each day.

Vocalize your values
That same LinkedIn study found that 71% of professionals would be willing to take a pay cut to work at a place that had a mission they believed in and a clear system of values congruent with their own. So be clear on your company’s values. Communicate those values frequently, and live them out as a leader.
